FPA: A FLORENCE SUCCESS STORY
Back in 1980, a group of Florence folks got together to explore ways to bring first-quality, affordable entertainment to town. Their efforts soon paid off, tickets were sold, and 3 classical musical groups came to Florence. A sold-out audience enjoyed those first concerts, which were held in a local school auditorium. Years of more successful concerts followed. From the original 3 concerts per year, the season grew to 4, then 6, then to the present 8-concert series. The audience soon outgrew the seating capacity of the school auditorium, so concerts were held at several other venues around town, until the Florence Events Center was built. The Florence Performing Arts presented its first season at the brand new FEC in 1997.
Florence Performing Arts has produced several hundred concerts in Florence, introducing high quality classical, jazz, ethnic music, dance, comedy, and variety groups to the Florence audience. Now celebrating its 28th year, Florence Performing Arts has booked a diverse group of artists who will perform in Florence in the coming 2008-2009 concert season. Tickets are now available.
Florence Performing Arts is a volunteer organization. Selecting, contracting with, and arranging to bring the performers to Florence involves considerable planning, work and effort, and it is all done by a cadre of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers--FPA Board Members every one. FPA membership is open to anyone -- a prerequisite is that he or she must be a season ticket subscriber, and each individual membership is subject to approval of the full board.
FPA is seeking active and committed
volunteers with skills in the fields of finance, marketing, grant
writing,
and other areas. If you would like to bring your
skills to the board, contact any board member. COME ON! BE A PATRON!! Who are the Patrons and
what is the Patron Plan? An FPA Patron is
someone who helps make the Performing Arts Series possible by
generous contributions to the Patron Plan. Tax
deductible contributions to the Patron Plan provide
approximately one third of the cost of the FPA series each
year. Sponsorhips, grants, and ticket sales provide the
additional funds necessary to maintain the high quality
peformances the FPA brings to Florence year after year. Donations to the
Patron Plan qualify for the Oregon State Cultural Trust (see the
web site:
www.culturaltrust.com.) With a
contribution to the Patron Plan an individual or a couple can
make an equal contribution to the Oregon Cultural Trust and
receive up to $500 per individual or $1000 per couple in tax
CREDITS on the Oregon state income tax. Contributions to the
Trust allow you to tell the state where you would like your
tax dollars spent. The Performing Arts Board wants
to thank the FPA members (individuals, couples, and families)
who have contributed to the Patron Plan this year (see the list
on our cover program) and in years past and hope YOU will
consider making a contribution to the Patron Plan next spring. Your continued generous support
to the non-profit FPA Patron Plan will help keep quality
performances alive in Florence. To
